Critical Review of a Disciplinary Assessment Genre — The Reader’s Notebook


One assessment genre implemented within my classroom is the Reader’s Notebook. It is a familiar assessment tool for many age levels, and I have seen the influential power of Reader’s Notebooks as they take on the personality of individual students. The notebooks house students’ thinking over the course of the year as they respond to a variety of readings. Using my knowledge of Understanding by Design and formative assessments, I will critique and review this reading assessment genre.
